    Same at my dept.

However, I managed to get one of the only cars that still has a radio in it, so now I have my Ipod hooked up to it for my custom hitlist. However, my Sgt. was not pleased when he reviewed my ICC tape and all he could hear during my traffic stop was Limp Bizkit.

heheh, no weren't supposed to. Actually supposed to drive with both windows down and the AC off to hear 'everything'. (You do have to hear your police radio though, that's a must) In practice, yeah dvd players/ satelite radios/cd players, windows up music on AC/heat on full blast.

We have radios and I've always got music on for background.

Got to have something other than Police radio and traffic/gunshots to listen to.

At my first department I recall at one point we got new cars that had a switch in the patrol radio microphone mount. When you picked up the microphone the car radio would go silent until you put the microphone back on it. We never had anything like that at my last department.

That's a great feature. That technology hasn't made it here, unfortunately. Instead, my dispatchers must hear Milli Vanilli in the background.

I worked with a guy who had Ice-T "Cop Killer" on a mixed CD. Whenhe locke dup some gangsta wannabe he would play that rel loud and sing along as if he really liked it and ask young unk, "Don't you just love this song?"

They never knew what to say.

One night we (same guy and me) stopped some kids who were underage with a carton of beer. Took it off them and drove off (we caught up with their parents later and went through the procedure). Later in the night we stopped two lads walking though the skate park. We thought they might be involved in a recent spat of grafitti. Searched them and found some pot and a pipe etc. Gave them required tickets and put the pipes and pot in the car centre console. As we did the lads (who had been extremely polite and friendly) made a comment about the carton of beer and now the pot in the car. We all laughed.

We sent them on their way and drove off. It was then that I hit the volume button on the stereo. It did not work so I hit it again and again. Unkown to me, my partner had paused the CD we were listening to. He then hit pause again and now due to me turning it up louder and louder, it came on full blast, just as we drove past the two lads we had taken the weed off of (and had seen the beer in our car).

The CD was Guns and Roses Live in Concert (we were having an 80's flashback night) and it was as Axel Rose was introducing the next song. He screamed loudly,

    "Let's get f!@#ing Wasted!"

Hmmm....great timing. Of course it was summer and we had our windows right down.Would have given the lads something to talk about though.:D

Why do you ask this question? Who cares if an officer is listening to to some am/fm radio while at work?

the music should fit the situation

(for those annoying customers on the way to jail)

For those who like rap and rock and roll, Classic Country all the way to jail.

For those good time cowboys, heavy metal usually works.:D

I had a female complain to the sheriff that I played OLD Rock and Roll all the way to jail.

    My ride, my music:p
On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.

Most of you are lucky guys/gals. Here we have no music, the only noise I hear is the radio call or the blablabla from those new generation cops who think the radio is an mobil phone to make dates with other cops.

    I love doing that.

When I done a month long stint in Narcotics, we done a buy bust out in the hood. Our UC leaves the area after making the buy and we all storm in and end up hooking up 8 people. So, we have them cuffed and in front of the cars as we wait for a few caged units to come up and transport for us, one of our guys gets into one of our block cars and turns on Ridin dirty.

We got those 8 hood rats and countless others sitting there watching us rock out to Ridin Dirty while we have 8 people in cuffs waiting in front of the cars for transport on various drug charges. :D

Although I listen to country, my customers get treated to Bluegrass on their way to jail. One of our local 7-11's in the downtown area (wino central) pipes classical music into the parking lot. This idea has been very helpful in keeping folks from loitering in the parking lot.
