Friend Lied on Polygraph Test and Passed

How is the possible? The part he lied about was the smoking marijuana-smoking question. This guy smokes like a chimney but said he never touched the stuff before and passed the test with flying colors. He said he read up on some stuff on how to trip up the machine and used those techniques to pass. But what really worries me is if this guy lied and passed it seems just as likely that I could take the test and tell the truth and fail. This test should be thrown out because it obviously does not work.

Who does he think he is Steven Segal?

No in reality it is possible to deceive a poly. I saw a special on the Discovery Channel. CIA spys are trained in controling emotions and blood pressure, etc..etc..etc... its not easy and the average joe can't do it. It takes many years of practice to be able to have full control of your body and to be able to trick a polygraph.

Polygraph tests work, trust me. You go try one out!

On the products site, the people in the testimonials basically said they were not criminals or bad guys. Hello potheads, if you smoke it you are a criminal. :drug:

Unless of course it's for medicinal purposes, but I'm sure none of them can relate to that.

One was caught by an alert officer who heard something unusual in the restroom. "A body part when it's up against a plastic cup isn't going to go 'clink,'" said Tom Madigan, interim assistant director of the Lubbock County adult probation office.
    That's some good stuff...:D

Hopefully that department doesn't rely too heavily on the poly.

They should do like Portland does....crawl up your butt with a flashlight and pitch a tent.

#1. A piss test. But this only finds evidence that it has been done recently

#2. Send out questionaires to 20 names provided by the applicant. 20 is a lot to come up with and forces the applicant to include people outside of his immediate circle of friends and those that may have known him a long time ago but don't necessarily keep in touch anymore.

#3. Ask those 20 people for 2 names each and send those people letters. That widens the filed to all kinds of people.

All questionaires should ask questions directly related to the use of ilicit drugs.

If the tips I mentioned above were done, it would be next to impossible to hide the undesirable habits.

Portland does not use the poly.

    driven21m,

Polygraph "testing" has no scientific basis and is easily manipulated through the use of simple countermeasures, as your friend has demonstrated. GMan26 is dead wrong when he claims that polygraphs work, and that to beat them takes years of training. If you don't believe me, listen to retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent Dr. Drew C. Richardson, who researched polygraphy for the Laboratory Division:

    http://antipolygraph.org/audio/polygraph-challenge.wav

You are also correct in your inference that you can take the test and fail. This has, in fact, been the experience of many. Which is not surprising, when you consider that the National Academy of Sciences has concluded that polygraph screening is invalid.
