    Speeding

Seeing one of the prior threads got me thinking of a question us non_LEO's have. Bear in mind, I have not had a speeding ticket nor do i want one I saw one LEO that says he doesn't pull someone over unless they are way over the limit. So here are my questions:

    1) Does the department determine how fast one must be speeding or is it at the discretion of the officer?
    2) If the officer is the one who makes that decision, what is your limit?
    3) And my last question, have you ever pulled someone over for going too slow?

Have a great and safe day!

    Eric

It is up to the officer.

    2) If the officer is the one who makes that decision, what is your limit?
    It depends on the situation.

    3) And my last question, have you ever pulled someone over for going too slow?
    Yes.

    Thanks

That's kind of what I was thinking. I have seen people on the interstate just flying right past an officer and he doesn't move. Just wondered if all the cars are going fast, does the officer more or less look for someone who is not only going fast but also reckless?

I will only stop a vehicle when it is exceeding the speed limit by X mph. (What this X amount is, well, that's a secret.) But, I will tell you this, X is very generous. So generous in fact, that I cite every car I pull over that is doing X over the limit.

    1) In my department at least, it is up to the officer.

2)My limit varies by my mood, but i will say this, the longer I wait, the lower the limit gets.

    3)Yes.

PA State Law has a minimum speed that I can charge at. And that varies depending on the speed limit , the type of device I am using to clock speed and whether or not it is a school zone.

    2. Officers have been known to go above and beyond that number but that varies. I don't " kiss and tell" about my limit.

    3. Yes , it is called impeding the flow of traffic.

Speeding tolerance can vary on the environment you are driving through. I work in a high crime area where people, in general, don't bust the speed limit much because no one wants the attention from the Police. Plus, they know that if they do get stopped, we're going to be looking for other things.

Sooooo, my tolerance may be lower than some other Officers that work areas of less crime. Their's may be higher, then again, maybe not. But that's the wonderful thing about discretion.

I pulled a guy over just two weeks ago for driving too slow in a 45 MPH zone........he was DUI.
