Why not get a collapsable sword for self defense?
I used to care. Now I take a pill for that.

Does that mean I should try to join the auxilary police, or just find some other weapon for self defense? If I should look for another self defense weapon, what would you recommend?

Try a mutant shark with a laser attached to it's head. If you can't get one of those, you could settle for an agitated sea bass.

I don't really feel like dragging a shark tank with me everywhere, and the sea bass are kind of weak even if they are mutated.

Yeah, but a mutant shark should be able to breathe out of water, at least during the time it takes to commute to work or school. You can stuff it in a backpack or something.

an expandable baton is intended for 1 purpose, as a weapon, it would be covered by CPW misd. Don't carry it.

What is CPW misd., and also I do not posess one yet. I say "yet" since I may try to join the auxilary police once I'm 21. Also, some of the weapons listed under 265.01 must have acceptions as well. I doubt all firearms are illegal, otherwise Sports Authority, and Wal-Mart wouldn't sell them. There must be a section stating when, and how they are allowed to be carried. Also would a half a billiards cue stick count as a "bludgeon" or can I have that in my car for self defense? One more thing; What is a class A misdemeanor, and what is the usual penalty for it? (Just curious, as I would hate to recieve any punishment, or criminal record.) Thanks

What's your deal? Why are you so terrified that you feel you need to carry some form of weapon for defense? Don't you know that without the proper training, you're apt to be assaulted with your own "self defense" weapon?

You've ask and received your answers from New York officers. Move on.

if you have half a pool stick "as a weapon for self defense" in your vehicle, you're guilty of criminal posession of a weapon.

stop being so argumentative. If you have an ASP and you're authorized and trained to have it as an auxilary cop, then you can carry it when you're acting as that, not off duty.

Some of the weapons do have "EXCEPTIONS." Read the entire 265 PL section. Some weapons such as a "gravity knife" require intent to use unlawfully, but some weapons, again, such as a "gravity knife" have implied intent.

I have been attacked before, and would like some form of self-defense weapon. I am trained in the use of "police batons" (trained by my friend in the air force at his house) and a little with knives. I normally carry a side folding Buck knife (like the kind you can buy at Wal-Mart) I use it to open boxes, and crates at my job, It is a 3.5" blade, but I would not use a knife as a self defense weapon, since it really can't be a non-lethal self defense weapon. I will move on as you recommended.

Sorry but a friend showing you how to use a baton at his house does not constitute training or give sufficient legal or practical knowledge of it. Fact is if you so truly desire to carry some sort of weapon as well as have a radio on your belt that " looks just like a police radio " you are going to get some unwanted or possibly wanted police attention and a few shake downs possible followed by a cite or the pokey. Maybe the pokey will be with the baton but not like you recieved at your friends house.

I know that does not constitute legal training, and I never actually carried any weapons on me other than my buck knife, but it is more of a tool to me, and I don't even consider using it for anything but opening computer boxes where I work. Also I do not own a baton, nor would I ever want any negative police attention. I respect the police, and what they (you guys/girls) do. The radio is mearly since I am part of the Long Island GMRS Alliance. ("Radio club thingy") I am obviously a techie/nerd/geek kind of guy.
