    Failing a psychological exam

What are my options as far as not passing the psychological interview? I heard that you can appeal this (with some success), and I've also heard of some departments that hire a candidate even if they did not pass. I haven't taken my psychological yet, but I am just curious since I heard that this is just a step to weed out a lot of potential candidates.

Remember the psych isn't determining if you are sane or normal or not. It's just trying to predict whether you would be a good fit in this job. The fact is, despite what you think, you won't know if this is really for you or not until you do it. The number of people who quit during training is proof of that. The psych is trying to predict that.

With that being said, it is a subjective test. The number of people who pass it and quit during training is proof of that too. I know of one verified on here who failed the psych at one agency and passed it and got hired at another. And he loves the job.

Your only options really are to request to take it again, or reapply with that agency when you are eligible, or apply with another agency and try it again.

In Texas the MMPI is required by state law. Fail it and no po-po job for you.
