Hey - Try SCPD, low crime rate, one of the safest cities in North America, and the cops start off at around 65K a year. (got up to nearly $90K == more with advanced degrees and advanced POST certs)
When you say they start at 80k, does that mean that as soon as you're hired you're hired you're making 80k? If so, that is a really high salary! I know a few cops around here who've been working for like 4 years and only make like $35,000. And can anyone post average salaries for other cities? ThanksOriginally posted by driven21m

that may be true, but when your a 22 year old college grad with no debt and paying $500 a month to share a 3 bedroom apartment with college buds 80k + the 5% incetive pay for having a degree is very nice :D
When you pay 80K a year, you can get the cream of the crop. You don't have to take seconds (let the SD's have those). Most departments in the BA don't pay that much. The CCCSD, ACSD, CCSFSD (starts off at 37.5K - very low), as well as most departments in the East Bay don't pay as well (6 grand which is not that much considering the risk). Risk does not equal pay. Tax base equals pay. Case in point: Newark, CA, a city with only 37,000 people and almost no violent crime pays among the highest in the area. The reason, they have a lot of heavy industry that pays a lot of taxes to the city (they also have the largest mall in the tri-city area).
Most of these departments are very competitive and have no problems in recuiting and keeping top individuals.
