    Question statue of limitation on mis warrant

    i just found out a couple of days ago that a warrant had been issued for a misdemeanor where i didn't finish paying restitution on a check. this was in 1986, the warrant was issued in 1989. is it still good? if so what should i do. i have children, i don't want to go to jail.

    There is no statute of limitations on warrants.

    Call the court. You will probably be required to finish paying and also pay some sort of fine.

    BTW, a statue is like what you see in a museum. A statute is a law.

    Go to your local police station and ask them if you have a warrant. They will be more than happy to tell you. :D

    As TX says, there is no statute of limitations on warrants.

    Original poster - see if the court has a public information access website. Our local county court does, and you I search public records and it will tell me if the perosn I search has an outstanding warrant out of that county.

    If the court that has your warrant also has a website then you may be able to find out.

    Or you can call the court and find out. Maybe even make arrangements to clear the balance without going to jail for the night first. Or maybe you can hire a lawyer to liase with the court for you?

    Or for a definite answer you could walk up to any of the Mobile Warrant Verification (MWV) vehicles that every city and town in the US has... Give your name and they will tell you if you have a warrant or not. These MWV vehicles are generally brightly coloured with red and/or blue lights on the top. ;)

    well yes

    didn't realize this was a spelling class. and yes, i did think it would just go away, the restitution i mean. i never knew there was a warrant issued. but doing something about it is what i am doing. that is why i ask the question, step one. i was told warrants are no good after 7 years. they have never looked for me. i have gotten license everything.

    thanks

    yes, i guess that is what i will have to do. i do not want to go to jail. if i hadn't had to have a back ground check done for a gun i never would have known. i have another question. if you are convicted of a second degree felony { the check 1100.00 }
    { there was extreme circumstances}and given a year and a day suspened sentence, does that mean you can never own a gun? the gun in question is a shot gun.
