Our local departments (cities) run with sinlge man or woman units durign all shifts due to back up being close. But the County runs with single man units until 2200 (10pm) then all but the supervisor, K9 and secondayr road traffic units run doubles.

Michigan State Police have a policy that says all shifts after 8pm must be doubled up, if man power isn't avaible then the troop doesn't leave the office unless extreme emergency.

Our troopers double up from midnight- 0700, but if they are alone, they still go out. They are REAL men.

The Troopers in this zone do the same thing Stump...2 man cars at night, and if no partner they stay in the office.

We ride at least three deep when we are in a car. If we are covert or undercover then we work alone. As for patrol it's 50/50. Depends on what part of the district they work and how high the crime is there.
