    credit problems

I would like to know if my bad credit is going to keep me from getting hired at a department in the michigan area? About 4 years ago, I left college to start a computer company, and after spending my life savings and then some, we failed and shut the doors. It affected me personally and I have still not filed for bankruptcy. If I do file, will I still have a chance at becoming a police officer? I am back in college now and only need about 28 more credits until I can recieve my degree and start the academy. I have always wanted to be a police officer and I will be willing to do whatever it takes to get things back in order to become one. Thank you to any one that reply's!!

I would SUSPECT that a bankruptcy would look bad. Don't do it if there is any way around it.

It also depends on what the bankruptcy was for. If it was because of health problems, a failed company, or divorce, then it's not as bad as if you file because of money mismanagement (ie credit cards, excessive loans, over spending.)

If there is any way around it, don't do it. It is a red flag.

Most of the departments around here look at your current credit record pretty hard. They view it as an indicator of how reponsible you are. If you have have problems in the past but rectified them then it shows some degree of responsibility. Thats not a big problem. If you still have debts that are in collection that looks very very bad. I would not file for bankruptcy if there is a way around it. Also, if you do have any debts out there that are in collection you should take care of those first before diving headlong into the application process. Bad credit will get you DQed if you don't make an effort to fix it. I got copies of my credit reports and found things that I was not even aware of. It took me a while to fix it.
And your whiney *** crybaby excuse would be....
