Here are some helpful tips on posting in the Ask-A-Cop area or any area for that matter. Follow these simple guidelines and you should be ok.
First before posting, see if your question has been already posted and answered. The search function (http://forums.realpolice.net/search.php) provides a wealth of information.
Before posting see if any of the below applies to your post:
- Is your post inflammatory? Meaning, is the sole purpose of your post to cause a disturbance on the site? If you answered no, proceed to the next step.
- Does your post make sense? Meaning, does it follow simple logic and can be easily understood? If you answered yes, proceed to the next step.
- Does your post make use of proper grammar? Capitalization, paragraphs, punctuation are all important to any of us reading your post. If you answered, yes, proceed to the next step.
- Press ‘submit new thread’ button
Some additional friendly advice:
Keep in mind, none of us get paid to take our time and answer your question(s). Therefore, we’re under no obligation to. If we do take the time to reply (and most likely we will) you may or may not be happy with our answer.
There is a wide range of law enforcement persons on this website ranging from your local officer to your federal agent. The age range is just as broad, from newly hired officers to officers that have paid their due and are now retired. This might explain why you get different opinions from different people.
Lastly, a little respect goes a long way. Respect for the time we take to answer your question, respect for the job we do and respect for the people we are. We are a tight knit community here on these forums and more so, in real life. Offend one of us, and you more than likely just have offended us all. A good indicator is this:
If your reputation bar looked like this prior to your post:
And now looks like this:
You probably have said/done something that offended us.
Again, this isn’t a foolproof guide to posting on Real Police, but should give you a good sense of direction along with some do’s and dont’s.
