    Interesting post on PDO.

    http://www.packing.org/community/leo...listview/13119

I posted this under Virginia because of proximity to DC, but it is really a nationwide question. We all know that the chances of a VIP and the protective detail encountering a law-abiding armed citizen is basically nil in DC, and very low in MD. But in Northern VA, where many meetings or events are held for Federal officials, there is a GOOD chance that a protective detail may encounter a CHP holder or open carrying citizen in the vicinity of where their principal is getting in/out of the limo. My questions are as follows, and I'm not asking for any classified or sensitive info:
    1. What is the procedure for such an encounter? Remember, the citizen probably doesn't even KNOW that the principal is showing up there, due to OPSEC. He or she is just going about their normal business, legally carrying a firearm per VA law.
    2. What is the statutory authority for Secret Service, DSS, FPS etc. to establish a security "bubble" around an event or a principal, and what should we, as citizens, expect to happen to us if we enter such a bubble while carrying or if such a bubble crosses over us while a limo is in transit?
Some here have been on protective details. Have you ever come across a situation like this before?

I always wonder...if someone is carrying a concealed weapon...how would I know he was carrying it (without a patdown search of course)?

If he was so brazen to allow me to know he was carrying a gun, I would seize the gun for a bit until my detail was completed for safekeeping. Carrying a weapon concealed with a permit is one thing, having it out for public viewing is something different.

Open carry is legal where I live and I have been known to do it.;)

Yeah, open carry is legal here too.

I think the only authority we have would be to prevent people from entering a protective zone. Like a crime scene line.

I have a friend who was in a hotel in the 80's. Apparently President Reagan was coming through and about 10 seconds ahead of him were some USSS agents. When they came across my friend, one of the agents pushed him against the wall and pinned him there until the President was through the area. It wouldn't have mattered if he had a gun or not.

I think nobody would know you were CCW until you were temporarily stopped and at that I don't think anyone can take the gun from you, just keep you away from the protectee.
