About 8 months ago when the gas prices started going up, my department took away our "full Indy" privlege.
Feel safe at night...sleep with a cop.
If you run, you only go to jail tired.
In God we trust, all others we run through NCIC.
My last PD (where ttnt0202 is still at) started a policy of us either hanging out at either the SO, the local Stop and Rob, or the PD if we weren't doing anything.....and we had to watch the miles on the cars the last time gas hit 3 bucks a galloon. Of course.....they got mad because ticket revenue went down, crime went up, and the fact that we weren't being visable....
I would suspect that they are doing that again.....and would ask ttnt0202 but her computer is tits up....again....
I have one guy who is cert to run the Harley and does so in nice weather, I have 2 more who just got bicycle cert and they will be out riding. Other than that, we have been doubling up if the manpower allows and I have the officers shut their cars off when just sitting ( depending on the temp).
Creeper Cop
Last price hike they asked us to turn off our cars for 10-15 minutes per hour if we could. Not an official policy but more like a voluntary thing to keep the department from making a policy limiting take home cars or something like that. I told my sgt I'd go above and beyond the call of duty on that for him.
If they ask us again I'll again make the sacrifice to give 150%:D

They've got us surrounded? Good. Now we can fire in any direction, those bastards wont get away this time

In 1972, during the first "oil shock" we were introduced to the concept of "static patrol". And then we were re-introduced to the concept of walking the beat. Not so this time. Given my department covers a state larger than Tx (but smaller than Alaska) with population about the same size and density as Nevada I think they're just going to have to pay for the fuel and be done with it.
Nothing to say - taking the Fifth.
I wish we could play by FD rules, and respond from the stationhouse. lol.Originally Posted by Bearcat06

Not going to happen , you would be on the computer reading and posting on RP all the time.:pOriginally Posted by phantasm
The former PD had a strict policy to shut off any vehicle parked at the department at all times. I think this was more so the cars were not stolen.

Nothing more than trying to limit our patrol to 50 miles per 12 hour shift. Sometimes gets kinda hard.
Thats when you say sorry I can't get the job done or make this callOriginally Posted by qpd158

Crap thats my policy anywhere around there :DOriginally Posted by michiganstud
We've only been told that there can be no more leaving a patrol unit running unattended (and locked, of course).
And no more "warm ups" or "cool downs".
We're just happy to have 1 key, let alone 2 for an RMP.Originally Posted by Mike Romeo

Just the other day, I had my LT ask me why I left the car running while I was inside a building on a call. He mentioned gas prices as a reason for the question. I'm guessing it's a new issue we'll be dealing with.
The answer I gave him was that I had to park the car in a bad spot and leave the emergency lights on. They aren't wired to run when the car's shut off. Of course, then we had a brief "Monday morning quarterback- type" talk on why I found it necessary to leave the car in a bad spot.
I had been sent to a panic alarm in a secure area that has a lot of money. He thought since it was an accidental alarm, it didn't require me not leaving the car somewhere safer. My response was that I wouldn't know what response was required until I investigated the alarm and we didn't know it was accidental until I arrived and made contact. We finally agreed to disagree on my actions.
