    What does this charge mean?

Long story short, I have to do a background check on myself and somehow someway someone with my name who lives in my city/same zip code has a charge of Conversion charge for DSP. They are going to pull the file for the name (I have a pretty common name) before they say yup your all clean. It didn't have a DOB so thats another empty area too. Anyone know what this charge is?

    This one I know I haven't done :D

As far as I know conversion is a form of theft whereby you take someone else's property and turn it into something else. Usually into money by selling it.

First off, it wasn't you, right? So no worries.

This happened when I was a recruiter. A guy applied and when the name was ran he popped up with a felony warrant. We called and set up the interview on this 25 year old, would be reserve officer.

We were all ready to cuff and stuff until he walked in and we realized it wasn't him. This man was in his 50's. :D A quick change of LEIN search fixed it and the interview went on.

Sounds about right to me, DSP = Distributing Stolen Property?? Either distributing or disposing I reckon

I know that the US doesn't recognise English common law but conversion was originally a tort in English law, usually it involved an interference with goods, such as perhaps borrowing something with the full intention and actually returning it but without permission. Conversion was criminalised in the form "fraudulent conversion" where the initial possession may have been either by permission or in tort but where later the person assumed ownership and perhaps sold the goods or did some other action that meant the owner wouldn't get them back.

As long as the dude doesn't have the same SSN, DOB, height, weight, eye color, and hair color, you'll be fine. :D

Off the original subject, but the 50 states are not all the same. Those that are commonwealths recognize common law (based on British Common Law)and statutory law. i.e. Commonwealth of Virginia, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, ....

FYI and have a Great Day!!:D
