Who to contact when the detectives aren't doing anything?

My Dad was carjacked last night and nearly killed when they dragged him over 100 yards hanging out of the window by his arm. We can't get a hold of the detective on the case, it is just a busy signal all the time. The people at the precinct were not at all helpful, and we get the idea that they don't plan on investigating the matter at all. How can we make sure things get done before too much time has passed by to catch them?

With all due respect, more than likely your father's case isn't the only thing going on. Keep calling, but the initial has been taken, and that's what they have to work with.

For one, you have no idea if they're doing anything or not. If you get a busy signal everytime you call, it sounds like they're pretty busy to me.

Everybody becomes a criminal investigation expert when a crime is committed against them or a family member. This isn't television, crimes aren't solved in 30 minutes or an hour.

And frankly, pissing off the detective by crying to other officials probably ain't gonna help either. No offense, but after doing nothing but major investigations for 17 years, family members can be a pain in the ***. Just because you aren't getting a daily briefing doesn't mean some cop isn't working his *** off on it.

No, it's not the only thing going on, but I really don't think that is the problem. They should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Atlanta police are notorious for being lazy and slow, and just not caring.

They could at least answer the phone. He remembered something else that should help to catch them, if we could get anyone to listen. We live right on the outskirts of atlanta and have dealt with several auto thefts here before only through the police in our municipality. For thefts where non-violent thefts where one was injured the police in my city went after them more vigorously than the APD is going after attempted murder.

I can take a pretty good guess that they're not doing anything from what they said and the fact that the phone is off the hook. They are not busy, the phone is off the hook so that no one can get in touch with them. It has been busy all day long on redial.

I don't want you to assist in trashing a department. I would just like to know who I can go to that is over their heads. Why do so many police seem to care only about going after law-abiding citizens and when it comes to the real criminals it's all we'll get to it when we can? Instead of sitting around waiting for someone to do a california stop, or go five over through a constantly changing speed zone why don't you spend your time looking for real criminals. Oh that's right, because real criminals might hurt you. And you wonder why so many people hate cops.
