    Question about precincts/roads

    Graduating the academy shortly and going to be placed in a precinct which is an unfamiliar area to me. Any advice as to how to get to know the roads/area? Any maps better than others? Or ways to turn a map of your sector into a hand held easy to read map. You veterans should have some good ideas. Thanks.

    Don't use a map in the RMP in NYC, you will be laughed at :D ...ask central for a cross street when responding to jobs if you are unsure of a location...if you really want to know your PCT well, after a tour one day drive around and get a feel for the area.

    I have a laminated phonebook map that works pretty well for me. It beats opening a full size map any day of the week. But my jurisdiction is quite a bit smaller than NYC so this may not be an option for you.
