    Kansas City Area

I'm looking for any LEO's that work in or around KC. I have some questions regarding working for KCPD, i.e. benefits, working conditions and average amount of overtime worked a week. Also curious about the residency requirement for KCPD, and if there are any changes to that in the future. If this is not an appropriate thread, then I apologize and feel free to harass me and delete the post.
A little background: I am an aspiring LEO, I live around KC and would like to stay here. I have applied to a couple area departments, but was not hired. Now I have decided to wait to apply again to anywhere until I finish my degree. (Only two more years to go.)

My advice....finish your degree then go over and apply for jobs on the Kansas side of KC....
Olathe, Overland Park, Shawnee, Johnson County, Lenexa, Prairie Village, Leawood, etc.....start off 4K-5K more than the Missouri side. They have better equiptment, get tried better, and don't put up with all the BS we do on the Missouri side of the place.....most of those places don't care where you live....as long as you can be there in 30 mins or less.

As for KCMO....you HAVE to live in the City Limits of KC. No exceptions and it's not going to change anytime soon. And yes, they will come look for you to make sure you are living within the city limits. OT is there in the form of off-duty gigs that must be approved by the Off-Duty Coordinator. Equiptment is ok but it gets beat up and used a lot....and they will not replace it until it's completely broke.....
Some beat cars have over 200K miles on them.....and as a rookie, guess what you will be driving.
One you put in three years you can apply for other jobs....but you have to bust your *** to get the spot.
