    Good,

Maybe in the next three years he will learn a few things and realize his error in thinking that since his daddy is the boss it is OK for him to just take a slot.

The bottom line is there is no way you know about how much competition there is for the job. And at 19, with no college and no real full time work experience, I doubt you are the best canidate for the one slot if it was announced to the public. Most PD's in MA are HIGHLY COMPETITIVE for applicants. And juts cause you daddy's chief, doesn't mean you will be a good cop.

Take it for what its worth, but Mescap and Jay are on the right track. You may think those 12 other officers like you, but they have to, you daddy is the boss. But the publics perception of you, and what those officers think of you when they are not around you is not going to be so nice. Plus, by doing what your doing and going on the same department as your daddy, your making him look bad!

I would apply elsewhere. My father was a high memeber of a large PD and I could have easily skated in behind him. I didn't! I went someplace else, applied, and got in ON MY OWN MERITS! I will make my own career path with integrity, pride and honor on my own, not skating on who my father wass.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

"And at 19, with no college and no real full time work experience,"

I almost have my associates in CJ, so I do have some college. and heres exactly what Chapter 31 Section 58 says, cut and pasted directly from the MA general laws website:

"No person shall be eligible to take an examination for original appointment to the position of firefighter or police officer in any city or town if he will not have reached his nineteenth birthday on or before the final date for the filing of applications for such examination, as so stated."

Also, there isn't alot of competition for places on this dept because it is such a small, part time dept. My plan was to start here, then potentially go on to State Police in the future.

You "almost" have an associates degree in CJ....wow, so that means you have ONE year of college experience?

I would never want to work with a 19 y/o, they are too immature and it takes far to long for them to grow up. There is too much responsibility in the job to be giving it to a 19 y/o.

The officer's who work for your daddy will resent you for getting the job b/c daddy is the Chief. They are not your friends. They are probably only being nice to you because your daddy is the top dog.

I'm sorry, but at 19 y/o, one year of College and ZERO experience, you would NOT be the most qualified candidate.

I look at 25 yr olds today ( I was hired at 25) and they seem a lot like a kid. 19 is just TOO young for them to have the ultimate power of arrest and life and death decisions. I don't care how mature they are or seem , 19 is nothing but a teenager who is still a kid.

And there is nothing wrong with being a 19 yr old kid, enjoy it. Prepare to be a LEO by the time you are 21 . Maybe you will have a 4 yr degree, some real life work experience and maybe some maturing away from your parents.
