Want honest opinion of an Officer if i can get disqualified for LAPD

    11-25-05.
i recently passed the LAPD test and want to know if my history will be basis for my disqualification? I live in NEW YORK and here is my back ground info:
please read my background history and tell me what you think, thank you for your help

    Age: 23

    EDUCATION:
    1: Associates in Criminal Justice
2: Bachelors in Criminology (finishing in May 2006)

    LANGUAGES SPOKEN FLUENT: ENGLISH,URDU

    VOLUNTEER WORK:
1: I am a volunteer fire fighter at East Meadow Fire
    Dept. NY
2: I might also soon start as a volunteer at the
    county hospital in my town.
3: I have been donating blood regularly as good will for the last 3 years at the Nassau county hospital, NY.

1:I've had about 11 part time jobs since i was in high school with no terminations.

2:I was arrested in May 2002. I had a brass knuckle in
my key chain when I was pulled over for a traffic
violation. I had no idea it was illegal to possess a
knuckle. The charge was misdemeanor but It was dropped
down to a Disorderly Conduct which is a violation and
not a misdemeanor in New York and I paid a $100 fine.

3:My driver's license has never been suspended but i've
    gotten about 12 tickets(both moving and non-moving
violations) in last five years since I've had my
license(2000-2005). I have about 4 points on my
    license.

Being disqualified and being less-than-qualified are two different things. You should be able to research the disqualifiers on-line. Whether you meet the criteria to be LAPD may be a different issue. For example, I honestly don't think the brass knuckles will be an issue... but the 12 traffic tickets may be. Nonetheless, only LAPD knows the answers in which you seek.

    Pardon my ignorance, but...
    WTH is URDU?

What you MIGHT do is of little note when compared to what you HAVE done... I MIGHT run for President, but that doesn't show how well I performed while doing it, nor did it get me any experience in doing what I haven't done yet.

Donating blood, while being commendable, is hardly volunteer work. Unless you are cleaning bedpans and swabbing congealed crap from the floors of the ER's on a non-paid basis on a regular schedule, you are just filling in lines on a form. Quit the BS. Stop lining the crapper with cedar chips. Better to leave it blank than to give the impression of being an artist.

I hope you didn't tell the IRS it was volunteer work.

While I commend you on your charities and volunteer work, you have to realize that alot of applicants with LAPD have far less traffic violations and other marks on their record.

I think the only problem with the brass knucks charge is the fact that it was only 3 yrs ago.

Another question, how does a brass knucks charge get amended to disorderly? Those are two very different charges in my book.

Go ahead and put in and see what happens. The worst they could do is say "no."

Possession of brass knuckles is a felony in CA. Just because you made a plea to a lesser charge doesn't mean you weren't guilty of the felony. My dept would DC you on that alone.

First: Yes we all are aware that Urdu is a language... This post gave it away:

More specifically, that type of language (Asian, European, Middle Eastern etc)

Second: When you say that you "might soon start" a volunteer position, that puts up the BS flags. So go ahead and start the volunteer position already, don't tell people that you "might" do it, that is worthless.

Although a very good thing, donating blood can hardly be considered volunteer work. I bet you take the cookies and OJ that they provide right? So you are accepting compensation for your "volunteer" work. :D

Does not really matter at all if he works for LAPD. He stated that the violation was a Felony in Ca. Which means the whole state. Second your ticket count is going to cause you a lot of problems with any department, it appears you have a history of not following the rules in a vehicle. Why would they put you in a patrol vehicle so that you can break more laws? Third telling a verified LEO on this board that he is ignorant after he just asked you what the URDU language is would not be something that I would suggest. Fourth I have a degree from a University and have never heard of that language. So indulge us and tell us where the language comes from, and where its spoken.

    Ditto...

If the language is not spoken within the neighborhoods of the City that you are applying, then the skill is worthless. That specific skill would mean nothing in my City, however, if you were able to speak Spanish, hell you would have no trouble getting a job.

    Your Language

Ok so this language is spoken in South Asia, plus its not spoken all that much to begin with. So pretty much its useless.
