ANY BI's out there or other LEO's with advice?????
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am currently applying to a few agencies in my area and for the most part I am a good candidate for a LEO position I am 32 I have had the same job for the last 10yrs I currently hold a Firearms permit(2) one for my SPO security job. My question to anyone that can try and answer it for me is: I currently have on my record that when I was 19 I was charged with 4 counts of Assault and 4 counts of Battery, 1 count of deadly weapon concealed, 1 count deadly weapon with intent to injure, and 1 count of reckless endangerment. I know this sounds really bad but there were 4 people that I had an altercation with in a beach town in the summer of 92" that pressed these charges on me. I went to court and nobody showed up no officers no witnesses and by the way no gun which I never had by the way!!!!! I plead guilty to 1 count of ASSAULT which was verbal back then. I was really scared I never did anything wrong ever in my life and to me this was a big deal.. my lawyer suggested the plea bargain... big mistake right? I know I wish I were a little older and wiser before I took the plea I just wanted to get out of there if you know what I mean.. This plea did not effect me getting firearms later on in life or a CCW permit for my state either which is Md hard to believe right? Well laws changed and in 1999 I lost my gun rights and I had to return my permit. Any crime that you were found guilty for and convicted that carried more than a 18 month sentence misdeameanor or not you could no longer possess a firearm in MD or a permit for that matter. So my friend in STATE POLICE at the time recommended I try for a PARDON with FULL FIREARMS relief from the state to get my CCW permit back and firearms back I applied and 3 years later I was approved for my PARDON. I was now found innocent for this crime that I commited in the beach town but all of these charges still show up in my court record. You cannot get an EXPUNGEMENT for a pardon until after 5yrs after the PARDON was issued Md state law. So my question is do you think I am hopeless with getting a job in LE? No DQ's yet? knock on wood...but I have not started any real BI's yet? What do you think? any info on this would help ? or opinions????
Thanks
