    ? on written exams

It seems from what I been through on the site that the written exam is common sense an at times doesnt even relate to police work? Is this true? I take it that it is the easiest step in the process as it is the first. Just looking for some insight because I was planning on paying for the policequiz.com just to be on the safe side.

Don't know anything about policequiz.com, but that may likely be a waste of your money. I can only speak for the civil service test here, but our's is more of a psychological profile. It seems that in the past it has math, reading comp, and other portions that would be good measures of intelligence, but some sued the county and stated that the test was discriminatory against those who were educated in minority schools. Not sure if there is any validity to that, but the test was changed to more of a psych test because of it.

It wouldn't make a lot of sense for an application exam to test the applicant's knowledge of police skills. Most applicants don't have any familiarity with the penal code or with police tactics and procedures.

Most entry tests assess problem solving ability, common sense, and general knowledge. Practice tests can give you an idea of what sort of questions may be on the actual exam, but I don't think anyone lacking in common sense or problem solving ability is going to learn either of those things through a set of Cliff notes.

This test is designed to measure your ability to think on a time frame. You are going to be given a certain amount of questions and told you have a certain amount of time to answer them in. The test will consist of reading, math and comprehension. You must be able to read or see something and recognize it right on the spot. Buying something from policequiz.com is not the answer, nor is buying anything to help you take the test. It is simply common sense. You can not really study for this test, it is nothing like the ACT or SAT test.
