What should I be doing now???

I am a 16 yr. old girl and I would like to know what thing I should be doing NOW to get ready for becoming an officer. I would eventually like to be a K9 or mounted officer, but I don't think there is a ton of spaces for mounted officers. I have always been good with animals and I have been riding in all types of events since I could walk!!! (sorry if that sounds like I am bragging) Anyway, I would appreciate any input; ideas, comments, personal experience, Whatever. Thanks a ton! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Stay in school... plan for college (or military; or both)... and stay out of trouble. Since most agencies won't hire you until 21yoa, you have lots of time to prepare.

Don't do drugs, keep your background clean, and finish high school. After high school, go into the military or go to college. You could go into the military as an MP and eventually become a K-9 handler. After your enlistment is up, that could help you eventually get on a K-9 squad with a local department.

Keep in mind that K-9 positions are usually quite highly sought after. Most of our K-9 handlers have between 15-20 years of LE experience and didn't get on the K-9 squad until spending five to ten years doing other things within the department.
