What would you have done ?

My friends son who just graduated from FSU is applying for an le position at several agencies including Federal. Well he just got a speeding ticket 48/35. Where he got the ticket at it dropped off real quick from the 45 to 35 mph speed limit & he didn't realise the speed had changed untill he was stopped. Just to be clear the boy is not going to contest it he is going to drivers school. When stopped the boy (according to his dad) was very polite & explained the situation & about wanting to become an le to the officer that stopped him. Several of my le friends said if it went down as he said the would have given him break. When I was an le 30 years ago I would've also. My question is assuming it went down this way(of course I wasn't there) would you have given the boy a break also or wrote the ticket ?
Thanks all & thanks for all you do.

They problem with this scenario is that anyone can "say" they are trying to get into Law Enforcement, however they have no way to prove it.

It shouldn't be an issue with most department when it comes to interview time.... I got hired and I had three prior traffic tickets. :D

What department wrote him the ticket, and in what state?

Speeders lie. Some lies are more amusing than others. All are irrelevant to the offense.

Someday I'm going to find an honest one, but I'm not holding my breath in the meantime.

I personally would not have cut him a break, LE applicant or not. But I tried my best not to run radar right after a speed limit reduction.

The remaining core is known as a white dwarf, seen in the center. Our sun will leave a similar corpse behind after expending its nuclear fuel. This nebula is located in the constellation Musca, the fly, visible only in the southern hemisphere.

What difference does it make if someone else would have cut him a break based on 4th hand knowledge of a 3rd hand story?

Hey Jay, maybe you could write up a nice 12-step process on reverting and recovering from such a horrible infliction.

The boy was doing 13 over the speed limit, he is getting a ticket from me. As officers and if you were in LE 30 years ago you should know, that we have a threshold that we go by when talking about speed. Some officers give more over than others. I am one that is on the lower end of the speed spectrum. For someone to get by with a warning they pretty much have to have an extreme emergency or well thats about it. I give 12 over and my theory on it is this. You know by the time you get to 10 over that you are speeding, you are intending on doing that speed, I just give you the benefit and give you two extra miles more (which I am sure the other officers on here know why). He was speeding, man up, pay up and move on. No agency is not gonna hire you just because you got a speeding ticket. Heck most of us that are verified on this board I would say have been wrote for speeding.

Oh and thanks for coming Hugs to you and your friend. :D
