I am really aspiring to become a state trooper, however I am not good at recognizing cars, also i have never shot or know much about guns either. Does this really hurtme

You will start recognizing cars a lot more when you get driving around on your own. A lot of cops never shot a weapon a day in their life before getting into law enforcement. But I recommend learning for any law abiding citizen. Shooting is a perishable skill, so you need to learn it properly and practice it whenever you can.
You know the difference between a job and a duty? A job you can refuse to do because it's dangerous; a duty you must do even if it is dangerous.

They will teach you most everything you need to know. They won't have a class on " vehicle recognition". Pick up Car and Driver magazine and get yourself accustomed to the new cars on road. A LOT of them are faster than a Crown Vic.

I'm starting to learn car bodies easier, as said above it just takes time. I am by no means a car nut, so I was hardpressed to tell between a moped and a Impala when I first started. You'll get to know the 'common' cars driven in your area quickly.

The people who did best in the academy with firearms were those who had never shot before.
as for recognizing cars, all the info will be on the registration when you pull them over.
