    Service Aide

I am about burnt out with the post office. I want to leave before i finish my CJ degree. I would like to know what you all think of the service aide jobs, we call it service aide here in florida, don't know what is it called in other states. I was reading some of the duties an aide does and to me it can be a bit intense so why is the starting salarfies so low. Example would be the city of Davie, their duties are more extreme than say Pembroke Pines. They must be the same but the ads say something different. Please your input would be greatly appreciated even if you the responder is from the city od Davie.

    Thanks in advance

Knowledge of traffic laws, city ordinances and safety procedures related to traffic control and parking. Assists at crime scene and accident investigations; directs traffic. Knowledge of the method and process of operating radio transmitting equipment. Must be able to deal effectively with the public and be able to type and maintain a variety of simple clerical records.
I don't see how that would qualify as "intense".

I just posted that link so you can refernce the type of job I was talking about. This one seems simple I know but this next link seems to have more in duties than the firstr one I sent you.

This is the one to me seems intense:

Jebus you'll start off non-certified almost at my max salary level :D

Does sound like a good step, I'm guessing it's a secretarial job or a metermaid or volunteer type job?

31 K isn't bad for starting pay. I know of a number of PD's that don't start at that much. Ours is 37 K.

Many of our PSA's (Police service Aides) have used it as a step in their law enforcement career. We have sent many of them to the academy and they are now sworn officers.

For those that don't know what the position is, it is a non-sworn (unarmed) position. They handle "routine" calls for service - like a theft where the subject is no longer on scene, accidents, lost property, parking citations, etc... They CAN NOT make an arrest.

It is an excellent way to learn how to interact with people, learn some investigative techniques, and give a police department an opportunity to evaluate you as an employee. The academy is MUCH shorter than the police academy, 4-6 weeks as opposed to 4+ months.
This isn't Burger King, you are not going to get it your way.
