    Tracking

Okay folks, quick question for you. How many of you have training or experience in tracking.

Im thinking mostly rural cops or those in SAR or border patrol, but maybe applications to scene processing as well.

Myself I'm a SAR volunteer and have done two courses in "track and clue" with a SAR angle but got called in to assist on a rural drug lab a while ago. Found ingredients hidden in the bush and a buried sack of money. (Damn conscience beat student loan debt)

    Any one got any stories?

No stories, but there are several guys on the USMS Special Operations Group that have been to the Army tracking school on Hawaii.

I did some tracking with our Patrol Officers, the "Shadow Pack". These were Native Americans, and we tracked smugglers along the Mexican Border. These guys are GOOD! Give them enough prints, and they will not only tell you how many are in the group, who is the leader (no backpack), and where they are going: they could tell you the names of everyone in the group (well, almost)!
I am proud that they made me, a 'gringo', a ""Shadow Wolf" - the only one, to my knowledge.
When I was along we recovered several hundred pounds of dope, and as many as 7 smugglers at a time. We used the Blackhawk helo for backup.

I have friends who are Border Patrol Agents. The only difference between them and a K9 is that the K9 smells better. :D

But seriously, those guys are incrediable when pursuing aliens in the desert.
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

    And isn't as hairy :D

Had one example on the last course I did of a sheriff called to a missing child case in a house that backed onto a desert.

Sheriff circled the place four times trying to get a direction of travel but couldn't find anything of interest. Long story short, the sheriffs went back and interogated the parents and found they had killed the child and made the whole thing up as a cover story.

Sad but shows how useful it can be
