    For Michigan officers

I am with the NYPD. I am looking for jobs in the state where I grew up. If was to transfer from NYPD to a Michigan dept would I need to complete the entire MCOLES process or would Michigan recognize the NYPD and lateral in? The reason I ask is because I will make appointment to take the MCOLES written test as soon as possible. Any help would be great.

My first advice is for you to get verified as a Law Enforcement Officer on this site. We have access to forums that non-verified's don't. Which means we can discuss sensitive matters we can't and don't in the general forums. PM DC Law or Bearcat06 with your personal and department information.

Next..PM Jay, or MichiganStud, or one of the other LEO's from Michigan on here.

This is from the MCOLES site:

Q: I’m a law enforcement officer outside of the State of Michigan. What process is required to become a Michigan law enforcement officer?

    A. Out of state law enforcement officers may be eligible for the Recognition of Prior Experience & Training Program. Officers who have completed a state recognized basic training program and functioned as a state licensed, full time law enforcement officer for one year (2080 hours), may be eligible to begin the Recognition of Prior Experience & Training. The following is the Recognition of Prior Experience & Training Program:

    Eligibility Determination

Contact Ms. Sandra Luther at (517) 322-6608 or E-mail at luthers@michigan.gov and request a Waiver of Training Packet.
Submit the completed packet to the address indicated.
You will be notified of your eligibility to continue with the process.
Recognition of Prior Experience & Training

Optional participation in a 40 hour preparatory recognition of prior experience & training program is recommended. The program consists of training in the Michigan Motor Vehicle Code, Criminal Law, Firearms Familiarization, and First Aid. There are two authorized recognition of prior experience & training locations in Michigan.
    Pass a written licensing examination.
Pass a handgun and shotguns skills examination.
Possess a valid first aid card (Standard First Aid and BLS for the Professional Rescuer). The first aid card may be obtained during the preparatory program.
    Licensure

Upon successful completion of the process, you are eligible for licensure as a Michigan law enforcement officer.
You have one year of eligibility from the date of completion of the process to obtain licensure. Licensure is issued when you are hired by a Michigan law enforcement agency, paid a minimum wage, work regularly scheduled hours, and have full law enforcement authority.
The Michigan law enforcement agency is responsible for verifying that you meet the minimum employment standards.
