    recieved ticket for illegal tints.....

i recently got a ticket for illegal tints in florida, my thing is that when i had them put on the car i was under the impression they were 30 percent, but when the officer (who was very rude and a basic ahole, regardless of niceness on my part) put the light meter on it registered as a 12 percent. i have proof in the form of the receipt from the shop that says that they are legal and they specifically state that they are 30 percent, would this hold up in court and get the judge to drop the charges?

Charges will be dropped when you remove the tint. Regardless of what you believed at the time you bought the car/tint, you were driving a vehicle with illegal tint when the officer stopped you. Remove the tint and explain the situation and it should be dropped. Only a non-moving violation anyway.

Just explaining won't suffice, you must remove the tint as well or be ready to expect more tickets.

I was going to tell you about the secret method of getting out of the ticket and never getting another ticket while still getting to keep your tint just the way it is...

But since you called the officer an "ahole" I changed my mind.

I made up for you :D

I'm sure the officer that cited you has a method to ensure that his equipment is accurate and that he used it -

On the other hand - you have a "certificate" that you could have altered, reproduced, or fabricated from scratch.

Which do you think a judge will give "weight" to ???

Almost perfect, TPD. But you forgot to put 'whine' in there somewhere. ;)

ABSOLUTELY!!! Receipts from auto shops are the most irrefutable legal evidence you can find! This is your lucky day, 30585! Go to court with your head held high, because you're going to win this one!

I am always a little surprised when someone tells me they were told by an obvious expert, like the guy at the auto shop who’s name they can’t quite remember, that whatever they have been pulled over for was legal.

I pulled over a car after noticing the plate last year’s expiration sticker on it, and it belonged on a different make and model. The owner said they had just sold their old car (which the plate belonged to) and bought this new car, and when they did so they just took the plates off the old car and slapped them on this one.

When I told them that was misuse of registration and I would have to tow their car and issue them a misdemeanor summons and they’d have to appear in court, they became quite upset. It seems that “the guy” at the used car lot told them it was okay to swap the plates, and that when putting them on a new car they are good for two years, just like if you got them new from DMV.

They didn’t seem appreciative when I told them to make sure to mention “the guy at the car lot” to the judge.

Maybe it’s just me, but I expect at least a reasonable amount of personal responsibility from people. How hard is it to figure out that if your registration is expired and it belongs on a different car it probably needs to be taken care of?
