    CJ degree really useless?

I have been reading around on the site and it seems alot of people think that a CJ degree is useless. I just recently changed my major into CJ because i was VERY interested in the law enforcement field. I did not look around about the CJ degree itself but i talked to an advisor at my college and he said it was a good start for a law enforcement field. But now i'm getting nervous with what im reading :( and the ever rising college fee's are not helping with my feelings. Thanks in advance for any leo's that reply :D

It's not that it's useless, it's just not any better than history, English, political science, or under water basket weaving. Since it is so specialized it is very little help outside LE. If something happens, like an injury, and you can't be LE your CJ degree will be a handicap in the business world.

    1. It's a college degree. Unless it came from the Sally Struther's commercial, it won't hurt you, no matter what the job you seek.

    2. Lots of police officers have CJ degrees. Many more go on to get masters degrees, though usually in different areas in order to broaden their horizons.

    3. Don't strickly rely on the fact that you have a degree to get a job. Good work history(no matter what the job) and a clean criminal/driving record amongst other things are crucial if you want to stay in a positive light during the hiring process.

If you get hurt in police work, you can always go CBP! We need more limp **** lazy mooks. Not saying you are one or would be, just stating what we have amongst us. There needs to be a culling of the herd!

'madlib', you have recieved multiple very good responses to your question on the LE degree. Further, questions of 'what ifs' is not helpfull to you ( the world is full of 'what ifs'). If LE is what you wish to do, then stick with your guns and GO FOR IT!
If you have to ask 'what if' , you do deserve the most recent reponses you are receiving above.
