Military?

I am joining the Army this week. I was wondering what jobs would be good to have for a police career? I can not be an MP, is there any other ones that would help get a job in the future as a police officer? (Combat engineer?)How long would be good to be in the military for experience to get hired? Once I get out of the service, what do I do from there? Do I go to a police station? Or the academy? While in service any college classes that would help me?

Typically most departments just want military it doesnt matter what field. You mentioned you cant be an MP, why is that?

I can not be an MP because I was convicted of a Conspiracy of Breaking and Entering. 3 Suspended License charges, and when I was 16 I had illegal fireworks.

Well that is gonna disqualify you from any police department you are looking at. You should start thinking about another career path.

Dude......there is no way in hell anyone will hire you with that background....even if you have been in the military. My advice to you, pick a career other than LE and go with it......

I have asked a lot of my cop friends, and they said if I get my record ex-sponged I will be alright. As long as I don't get in any more trouble. I have a job already offered to me, as long as I go in the Military for 4 years. The cheif told me this. I am a ride along about 3 days a week. The reason I asked this in here tho, was to see if I did that if I could get a job other than this one. Thanks.

Costs a ton of money and you need a good lawyer to do it. On top of that, even if it's taken off your record, PDs you apply for will still have access....which means you will have to list it on your background forms or face being black-balled for not being honest with the first PD you apply for.

Was it felony charges...?

First off I want to say thank you, for getting back to me so quick. There are no felony charges. I have only spent 3 days in jail for everything. All were fines, and were paid on the spot. Would it be better for me to just re-enlist as an MP so I can pursue a police job. I wanted to work as a police officer in TN,CA, FL. A big city, that's why I would like to know. The job I was offered is in a small town. Thanks for your time.

I know in Tennessee that if you submitted a guilty plea to any charge then your not able to exsponge it.

In Oregon you can get one charge expunged, no matter what the plea, but not that many. And that only applies to criminal, C-Felony or lower. The suspended license arrests are yours to keep.

This may make some people laugh, but I was in the Army for 5 years in public affairs. It was the best job I could ever imagine in helping me in LE. I spent my time interviewing people and writing. I rarely have a court case go past the preliminary hearing. The reason I get is because my reports are great and contain all the info I need. Plus in Public Affairs I spent a lot of time meeting and speaking to higher ups. I interviewed the SGT. Major of the Army, all the top generals, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Secretary of Defense etc........

IF you want brutal honesty I'll give it to you. Find another career. You won't pass any background I know of.
