Something that happened to me in high school
I was a junior in high school when this happened. I was on the wrestling team, and one of the people on the team had won district(who happened to be Chinese). Out of celebration(or immaturity), some of us on the team decided to TP his house that night. So, night rolls around and we all get together to go do it. It was me, my friend, and two brothers who were on the team. We head out in one of the brothers' cars.
Now we're sitting outside this guy's house with 50 rolls of Kroger brand toilet paper, getting ready to do the deed, when the front porch light comes on. We all kind of freeze, and the door opens. His mom comes out, sees us, and starts walking briskly towards the car. The guy who's driving(Robbie) slams his foot on the gas and drives off. Well, she gets in her car in the driveway, and chases after us.
I know it was stupid, but we kept driving, trying to lose her in the neighborhood. She finally loses us, and we decide to call it a night. Well about three days later, a police detective knocks on Robbie and his brother's door. It turns out that she got the license plate and reported to the police that we were going to vandalize her house.
The detective gets Robbie and his brother to go into separate rooms and each write a statement. Robbie's brother(who's an idiot) wrote that we were just driving past when she all of a sudden started chasing after us. But Robbie told the truth. Luckily the detective let his brother change his statement. But he said that he was going to contact the F.B.I. and have them investigate us for hate crimes because the "victims" were Chinese and we were all Caucasian.
But after that we never heard anything else from anybody about that. Although I know it's wrong to TP somebody's house, it had NOTHING to do with race. And we never even perpetrated the act. So my question is, do you think that he actually contacted the F.B.I., and if so, that they investigated it. If they did, would that kind of thing be on my record. It happened when I was a minor. I guess I'm kind of worried about having anything to do with hate crimes on my record.
Sorry if this seems like a stupid question.
I had a stick of Carefree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor, I was back to pondering my mortality. Mitch Hedberg
