    Another Reserve Question...

I live in Southern California and am applying to a few local agencies as a full-time officer, but haven't had the best reception based on my background. It's not one major flaw or serious problem, just several smaller issues. It seems now that it may be in my best interest to let some time pass and work on the couple of issues that I can and reapply at a later date. My question is...are reserve programs typically more lenient and/or easier to get into with a less-than-perfect background?

Also, since I may then continue to work full-time and desire to enter the reserves, should I look into joining an academy at a local college or trying to get on a force that will sponsor me for a part-time academy? Which local college(s), other than Rio Hondo, have a "Reserve" academy?

    Any other info is appreciated!

Depends on the dept. With ours, if you can breathe and scale a 6" wall, you can be a reserve. Others requuire more or less the same as full time and I suspect a lot more are inbetween.

Yep, like sarge said, all departments are different. Ours is pretty stringent. The application process is similar to the full timers now, and the screening is pretty similar as well.

Ours is very stringent. If you can't make it as a fulltime officer you can't make it as a Reserve.

Ours is the same process / requirements as full time, but less competitive.

Our reserve program requires MOST of the same application process as full-time deputies (minus the Civil Service test). That includes successfully completing the same screening phases, like the background investigation, polygraph, psychological evaluation.

Thank you for the responses...I'll do some further research. Any info on the rigor of a part-time/reserve academy and where others might be found local to me would be great!

Thanks also for spizelling lessun...as you can see in a previous post, I caught my "typing too fast" mistake and corrected the word...dilemma. That's one "L" and two "M"'s!
