The law makes no reference to gender in self-defense. Your use of self defense must be reasonable, immediately necessary to protect yourself. Retaliation is not a defense, and you risk being charged with fighting in public or public intoxication.
Understand though, in my state use of force is a defense to prosecution, which means you CAN be charged with assault, and in court you have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that your use of force met the legal requirements of self-defense.
Always better to walk away.
