    Hunting weapons...

I've hared from many people a strange idea: that policemen (and other people that regullary use handguns) are very poor marksmen when they use shotguns.

Thaugh I am a hunter for quite a while, I've never seen a policeman hunting, but I find the idea to be a little bit odd. I'd expect the exact opposite from someone with police training.

Does any of you have any experience with hunting weapons? Is a 12Ga shotgun so heavy or massive that someone used to a revolver can't aim it propperly? Or that's just another "hunters story" as many others...?

Not for me. I'm a little better with long guns than hand guns. Your degree of marksmanship is direct ratio to how much you practice.

    Definitely an accurate statement.

I've never heard of officers being "bad" with a shotgun. We have training on both weapons in the academy, with obviously more on the handgun because it is what we're most likely to use.

I will mention that we had a "friendly tournament" of skeet shooting at the academy the last week and I was very surprised of how good some of the officers were. ;)

I'm fine with longarms, perhaps even slightly better, and I enjoy hunting whenever I can. I don't htink it's odd.

If you rob a gas station, you're only going to get about $100, but I get to see a K9 dog use your arm as a chew toy. For all I care you can keep the $100.

Never ran across anyone with a problem. By the way, LOTS of officers hunt here, mostly with rifles.
