I had a guy two academies classes before me go through at age 45. He was retired Military and was a stud at that. He's working for a PD just south of KCMO now and just became the oldest graduate of the KCPD Wheel school (motorcyle).
It can be done...
Older is better...just ask ME! :D

It really depends upon the department in question as there is no universal age cap all department's adhere to. So, if you're interested in a particular department, obviously the best thing to do is contact the department's police recruiters for more information. Most departments, to my knowledge, seem to have age cut offs ranging anywhere from early 30's up through early 40's. And there are some departments that do not have an age cap! Dallas (TX) PD is one department I know of that doesn't have an age cap! I heard of a couple of recruits in their 50's who graduated from their academy in recent times. Trick is however, you must successfully pass their physical fitness testing process. I suspect this is one test that likely eliminates most people in ALL age groups! ;)Originally Posted by tryinghard2bcop

I started the Academy at 32(I am 34 now) in 2003. Out of a class of 35, I finished 3rd in Physical Training. Matter of fact, I ran the fastest 300 yard dash time in the final PT Test.
Also, the two oldest guys in my class were 42 and 45 years of age. They made it through without any problems at all. Additionally, I hear there is a 52 year old dude in the academy at this time.
Age ain't nothing but a NUMBER!!!!

There was a guy in my academy class who was 50. He put himself throught the academy and got hired by my agency. Thirty-three is definitely not too old.
Went thru my first academy at 32, the 2nd & last, at age 38. My dept has hired applicants in their early 50's. They were retired military, retired out-of- state LEO, and retired from business careers, or private sector. Only concern is becoming vested in the retirement plan before maximum age of 60.

I was the oldest guy in my Reserve academy - I was 37 (and finished second BTW out of about 30 young pups) - I'm still doing it at 47 - Go for it!
