Since I could not reply to the post about rules of being pulled over, I am posting about it here and inserting the comment I would like to reply to.

I think ahead before I make a stop looking for a good spot if I want them but if I am going to an emergency call I'll just demand that you get out of my way and I have resorted to getting on my PA system and telling people to " PULL OVER NOW !!!"

Every time that I have been pulled over, I have waited until there was sufficient space on the side of the road or a parking lot to pull over in.

What if I am in a curve with no shoulders?, and it's dark, then what? I am sorry but I wouldn't pull over right away in these situations. I feel as though it would be hazardous to my health as well as yours.

I can understand you may be responding to a call, but I think there is an obvious difference. If you are trying to get somewhere fast you should be continually looking for a time to pass (i.e. swerving to the outside) signaling basically that it's not me that you are after. If you sit behind me calmly with you lights on it won't even cross my mind that you are headed somewhere else.

Point blank. I'm not pulling over anywhere, where I might be hit by a car. Period.

Failure to Yield right of way to an emergency vehicle. If I'm going to a call and not trying to pull you over.

If I have to tell you over the PA and you don't move then you can add Failure to Obey the Directions of a Police Officer/Deputy Sheriff.


If I am trying to pull you over and you refuse then it's Resisting Stop/Arrest hope ya can make bond.

If I come up behind you and I have my lights on, you do one of two things -

* get out of the way
* pull over

Rest assured if it's you I want, then I have chosen where I want to pull you over and have taken road hazards into consideration.

If it's not you and I want to get past, and you're in one of those dangerous locations, or you're blocked by other traffic - Don't slow down, don't brake suddenly, just move, either out of the way, to the shoulder, or speed up to get past that car next to you, if it's a multi lane road.

How will you know if it's you I want or I'm just trying to get past? You will see me coming from a lot further off if all I want is to get past you. If it's you I want, the lights will go on when you look in your mirror and can see the whites of my eyes.

If you fail to comply and continue driving when you should be puling over, you will be getting every ticket I can think of, like the last clown who said "I didn't know why you wante me to pull over" and kept driving for another 5 minutes.

Think before you speak young fella. As mentioned, I pick where I want you to pull over. I know the roads and I know where it's safe. If there is a bus stop or parking lot coming up that I want you to pull into, I will hit you with my lights shortly before it.

You're right about there being a difference between yielding and being pulled over for a traffic violation. You're wrong that YOU can determine the difference! That's not up to you; that is up to the officer stopping you. If I'm behind you and want to stop you on traffic, I will choose the best stop for the conditions. But that MY decision, not yours. You don't have the same information that I do. You might think it's a dangerous curve, but I might KNOW that there is an unprotected accident in the middle of the road on the other side!

Bottom line: When you see a police car, emergency vehicle, behind you... yield to the right!! PERIOD!!! :mad:

You do not have the choice of where to do so. In fact there is a charge called failure to yeild to an emergency vehicle that will get tacked on to any other violations you have committed.

Actually, we will ask you to walk back to our patrol vehicle out in the middle of the traffic lane and make it so you get your dumb *** ran over....then there is no need to sue because your not around any more..... :rolleyes:

You know, there are times when I tell myself that I'm getting cynical and that the people I think really have no right to use up oxygen are probably just a bit misunderstood. Then someone like Junior comes along and reaffirms the fact that some humans have value only in that they may be future organ donors!
First, if an officer is going to pull you over, THEY are going to have better sense than to do it in a curve. Not so much because we are afraid of what might happen to you but we don't want to end up road kill ourselves. K? Got it now?
Second (I know, counting is probably NOT your best skill either, but just use the remaining teeth in your head...you MIGHT get there), if we are trying to get around you, pulling over will not put you in any kind of danger as once we are around you....YOU START MOVING AGAIN! Any traffic that may be behind you is probably WELL behind you since we were moving at Mach 8 prior to coming up on your idiot a$$. If they are right behind you, then they will know better than to take off right away because they will see you...won't they Einstein?
So, after all is said and done, your little scenario is really nothing more than an opportunity to rant about the police doing something they actually never do!
