Lots of good responses on how this relates to police procedure, but do you guys have any advice for armed citizens on this subject? What kinds of things would be good to say and would look good in court, assuming you had time to say anything?
I don't think I'd be wasting time shouting at someone pointing a gun at me either. I know it's just a game, but I've been playing Swat4 on my computer and you are ideally supposed to arrest the suspects rather than kill them. You are docked points every time you shoot someone outside of a very tightly defined envelope of behaviour (suspect is pointing his weapon at you or a hostage). They bring their weapons up so fast though that usually by the time you have pressed the button that tells the suspect to throw down their weapon he has unloaded half his clip into your face. This kind of reinforces what you guys have been saying about giving the bad guy an advantage in reaction time by vocalizing.
