    Question on shooting....

When shooting do you aim at the target with both eyes open or close your non dominant eye? I know the "gun pros" suggest both eyes open but I can't seem to get the hang of that. Unfortunately I lose half my field of vision when closing my one eye. What's your preference?
    Thanks.

It's different for everyone. You have to find the position that is most comfortable/accurate for you and your eyesight!

Both eyes open. I don't know why, but it works for me.

Both eyes open. Police officers train this way because of tunnel vision issues during critical situations. By closing one eye you add to that effect.

If you're having difficulty maintaining your focus and aim, maybe you're using your weak eye to find the target. I shoot right handed, but I'm left-eye dominant (as many officers are).

    Test yourself:
    · Cut a hole in a piece of paper about the size of a quarter.
    · Hold the paper up at arms length and focus on an object across the room through the hole (with both eyes open).
    · Now bring the paper closer and closer to your nose while maintaining a visual of the object.
    · The hole will come up to your dominant eye.

Now go shooting using that eye to line up the sights to the target.

    Hope that helps!

I find that out to about 7 yards, I kep both eyes open. From past about 10 yards I tend to close 1 eye, especially if I am trying for well placed shots, like head shots.

In my opinion it doesn't really matter. In a real shooting you are most likely going to be 7 yards or less from the suspect. At that distance you don't have time to get in your good shooting stance, with proper grip, sight alignment/sight picture, breathing and follow through. All you need to do is put the front sight post where it needs to be, be smooth on the trigger and put the dirt bag down. Now for quals shoot which ever way will get you the best score and then go train on your own with both eyes open. If you have some extra money take some combat shooting courses that emphasis shooting and moving.

I'm cross eye dominant and I have always kept both eyes open by just slightly turning my head when I shoot. I use a stance somewhere between Weaver and Isoceles.

Both eyes open and looking for threats in the peripheral. The shooting I've done under stressful (training) situations I never even saw the sights. All muscle memory and dead on target including body and head shots.
