    Two questions...

    Short and simple:

Do you ever ticket anyone for jaywalking? (I nearly hit someone this evening on my way home from work - the guy apparently couldn't read the "Walk" and "Don't Walk" signs.)

Do you ever ticket anyone for going under the speed limit and holding up traffic?

I wrote a couple of people for driving under the marked minimun limit. Years later I found out one of them was my wife's grandpa. LOL

I ticketed a guy for jaywalking...but he had already been run over by a car so the ticket was the least of his worries.

Not only have I arrested people for Pedestrian Use of Roadway...if they are drunk and stupid, I go for Intoxicated Ped Use of Road, and if no bond, they spend the night in county.

I've RECEIVED a jaywalking ticket.

Not yet, but I would - problem is that you are more likely to experience that problem when you're off-duty and in a hurry to go somewhere... :p

Oops, re: jaywalking, I meant to add that I got it while crossing a busy street to get to class. I learned my lesson. Never went to class again... lol

Our traffic guys crack down on jaywalkers periodically. But here, they are horrible. I drove to downtown Portland last week for the first time in years and people were crossing in front of traffic everywhere.

And yes, I've written a couple of people for impeding traffic. But they really were, they were driving way too slow in rush hour traffic and jamming it up badly.

I've stopped and talked to people for both, but I don't think I've ever written a ticket for either. If there was an accident involved or something blatant and dangerous I likely would.

Never for jaywalking, but where I am there are pedestrian crosswalks so they could only get in trouble if they literally dart in front of a car that has started across the crosswalk.

The other charge, I have ticketed for it. It is called "impeding traffic" where I'm from. It is also a good indicator for DUI's. If they are not elderly, then it is a good chance they're stoned or high. ;)

Yes, on both instances, Katie. Jaywalking is not as big an issue as it was when I lived down south. I've ticketed a bunch of people for driving too slow and holding up traffic or slowing down to look at an accident and holding up traffic. That makes me so mad! People have no idea how that puts people's lives in danger.

Before they closed the road there used to be a guy who would write tickets for "crossing against the red light" at First and C St. SE Washington DC. He was a U.S. Capitol Police Officer and would stand on the corner all day long and write tickets. He developed a reputation among Capitol Hill staffers as the sidewalk nazi. After September 11 the Capitol Police closed that section of First St. so I don't know what he does now.

He needs to come to Pennsylvania!!!! I'm just outside of Philadelphia so there is plenty of foot traffic around since I'm so close to the city. He'd fit in perfectly, could write tickets until his heart was content, and he would be a welome addition to Upper Darby's Finest!!!!

I have before... but usually after the subject has already been struck!!! :D I don't get much time otherwise.

As far as ticketing for going too slow... not very often, if ever. But I have pulled people over for impeding traffic (5 or more cars are being delayed).

I've used it for a reason to stop and talk, but never cited for it. I have gotten a couple of arrests from the stops.

Yep I have written for both. I could do the jaywalking everyday if I wanted to, but I usually give 'em the "HEY!! You must be out of your mind to jaywalk in front of a cop. Get yer arse back across the street and cross at the corner!!"
