radio codes for officer needs help

When a call goes out for officer needs help each agency I assume has a code that they use. (ex. 998/51 or whatever it may be)
My question is. When an officers call for help is heard over the radio how does other local agencies know what the code is for?
I assume that agencies that border w/ each other probably have the same code or just know the other agencies code?

for back-up from other agencies, the dispatchers take care of that after we request it to the dispatcher.

If I'm screaming for send me everything, my dispatcher notifies all surrounding agencies and the WILL send me everything.

I'm a deputy sheriff, and back-up is very rarely around the corner or down the street. When I'm in a foot pursuit or a fight, etc. I don't care what deputy/officer is coming to assist me.

    Big Clue: HELP!!!!!!

We don't use codes....plain English, especially for that.

My department is dispatched through county radio. We use plain English on all calls, so it would come out as "assist officer".

An officers tone is quite a telling tale that something is wrong. We also use a code number that is significant. If I hear it from a neighboring dept, I'll send at least 2 or 3 cars to assist.

If you work with the people long enough, you can tell just by the sound of their voice that something isn't quite right.

My agency is the only one using our channels so we wouldn't hear a neighboring agency hit thiers anyways. Dispatch monitors their main channel and if they go mayday, our dispatch announces that Richmond, Henrico, VASP, etc has a mayday situation at such and such.

    1) Surrounding agencies use the same code.

    2) You can tell by voice alone....just them even yelling "get down" or "police" over the air will let me know my brother/sister needs help.

    3) We have 2 codes.....10-85- meaning need help NOW........and 10-13 meaning I am literally in life or death and by the time you get here may be dying or dead.

Our codes are the same throughout the country, they were standardised a few years ago to prevent there from being problems when officers went on support calls to neighbouring countys.
