    The 165 pound body drag

    Hi All,
I am new here and hope i am posting this in the correct forum.
I am female and have been practicing for my physical agility test. I feel ready for everything but am wondering about the 165 pound body drag. I know you not allowed to practice with the dummy (but i have dragged my mom around a bit. ha ha)
Anyways, how difficult is that? Can you give me tips as to what might be the best way to drag it? (i.e. grip, how much to lift it off the ground, etc.) Thanks so much for the help.

Grab hold and make your legs do all the work.

Ican't speak as to how hard it will be for you. For our special ops we had to drag a 165lb dummy, but he was in full gear and was a little closer to 220 or so. :( We never had a dummy drag for getting hired... just a fit test (run, situp, pushups, flexibility and body fat).

I had the 165lb dummy drag when I tested for the SDSO, and it is fairly easy providing you use your legs. Those folks who had the most problems were ones who bent their back, pulled with their arms and didn't expand the diaphram or chest for full oxygen intake. I just laid back and drove with my legs down to the one cone, made my turn and came back up. We were given the choice of walking backwards or forwards with the dummy. You cannot heft it over your shoulder and run with it either.

For my volunteer fire department agility test we have to drag the 165lb dummy. He's naked, much better than in full gear. He has a piece of webbing we can drag him by, which makes it easy. The only thing I can add is that I'm a female and the body drag is no big deal. Use your legs, like they said, and you should be fine.

I'm female and also had to do the dummy drag...it's not too tough, but be sure to get a good grip on it and use your legs. The way that I did it was to squat down right behind the head and shoulders, lift the shoulders from the ground so the dummy is seated, reach under the arms and grasping the dummy around the abdomen area stand up, keeping the dummy in close to your body, then walking quickly backwards. Our test was timed and so it was important to do it at a fairly quick pace.

    Good luck to you.

At least with the gear, it made for an easy handle, grabbing the load bearing vest. With Jim, i would have to resort to grabbing the thong!

If its NYPD, there are 2 straps....place your hands through them and grab the bottom...then walk backwards. It glides easily with little effort across the waxed gym floor. If you are in any decent shape, it will be easy.

That is exactly how I did it. Start doing some squats and get those legs strengthened (if they aren't already). Grab that dummy and go, girl! Good luck to you, West Country!
