    Questions about SWAT

    Couple of questions.

    1. What name does your dept use for its SWAT team? Didn't most depts abandon that name and change it to something else? The closest town around that has one is called something like the Special Response Team. Not quite sure if that's exactly what it's called, but its something like that.

    2. How many pounds extra do you weigh when you're all rigged up?

Fast Action Response Team. They do lots of Super High Intensity Training.

Of course, the best place to be in is the Tactical Weapons Assault Team
Pittsburgh Pirates- 1st place NL Central 7/15/11

They've got us surrounded? Good. Now we can fire in any direction, those bastards wont get away this time

An amateur will train until they get it right. A professional will train until they can't get it wrong.

Our S.W.A.T. team was originally called S.E.T. (special equipment and Tactics) then was changed to SWAT in the late 70's or early 80's because the Park Rangers came out with a S.E.T. (Special Events Team). A couple of years ago they changed the name to E.S.U. (Emergency Services Unit). That lasted for about 2 months then it switched back to SWAT. I think they thought about what a pain in the rear it would be to rewrite all G.0.s and S.O.P.s.

To cover the weight part of that question... Pretty dang heavy My safari land vest level III likely weighs 35 pounds, now add another 20 in gear i have it stuffed with, ie. Flashbangs, ammunition, door chocks, gas, mirror, extra flashlights, cuffs, etc. Now put your weapons on, hk usp tactical 45, and either a mp5 or remington shot gun. Oh did i forget your helmet, elbow and knee pads, and my camel back. Initially it isn't so bad but wear it 6-10 hours..

I am not in SWAT, but just duty gear is 35 lbs.....

Add the heavy plates, additional guns, helmet and junk and it added 35 more lbs.

We're still called SWAT, and I would guess over 60 lbs extra.

As for me, I have seen a Florida department using TAC (Tactical Apprehension and Control) and there is the FBI HRT (Hostage Rescue Team).
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

HRT is the elite of the elite for the F.B.I. They also have other S.W.A.T. teams operating out of the field offices. I don't know if they are all called SWAT but the DC Field Office's team was. As a side note, I trained with these guys on a couple of occassions. I would match our team up against their's any day. The field office team not HRT of course.

Secret Service has C.A.T. (counter assault team?) for the agents and E.R.T. (Emergency Response Team) for the uniformed guys.
