Perhaps this is the new and improved me...but I am not even going to give this jackass the time of day. He asked a question and when given answers by LEOs, he gets pissed because it's apparently not what he wants to here....and goes off having a bully.
Oh well, his post has been reported and hopefully this thread will be closed and he will be banned soon for trying to start fights with the LEOs.....

    Bye-Bye Knucklehead....

When I was first hired ( 1986) they could have paid me peanuts and I still would have taken the job. Wait a second, they DID pay me peanuts , I started at $15, 687.50 !! Through longevity, promotions, OT etc I made made in excess of 75K each of the past 3 years. That and FULL and COMPLETE benefits all paid for make the job a bit easier to manage.

Please! Let's don't get all excited here. We are supposed to help anyone who asks questions, not attack them. Sometimes people just don't understand. Can't we be civil and stay unprovoked? I love you guys. Please let's just try to stay level headed. If a non-leo is going off on us, just try to find out what their problem is, like we do at work.

Just making a suggestion. Like I said, I love you guys to death and beyond!

I was wondering why that is. And can anyone tell me any of the good experiences they have had on the job?

    Why do you do it?

    Thanks in advance.
How about linking back to some specific examples of what you are talking about? Because, everything I read here is pretty much the opposite of what you are saying.

I've got news for you jarobins, your department is not the NORM across the country! Most departments do NOT get what you are talking about, okay. Oh, and I'm not ASSuming anything. If 1 out of every 3 posts that I read related to law enforcement talks about how they don't make enough money, I somehow come to the conclusion that police officers, oh i don't know...., don't make enough money!?

You know, I come in here and post about the respect that I hold for you guys and how honorable of a job you have, and then some jerk off like this has to sit down and nit pick through my post to find even the smallest thing that doesn't sit so well with him and then unload on me about it. I don't get a "Thank you, it's nice to be appreciated." NO, I get a hey *******, why would you assume this or that or the other thing! Damn.

    You know what, I don't give a flying **** how much money you make! I don't give a **** where you work! I just don't give a ****.

Holy Jebus! If my post would have been simply "I like police officers, they do a good job." You probably would have said something like, "why do you assume that all officers do a good job, or why don't you think some of us do a great job" something to that effect.

No matter what I say, someone here will always find something wrong with it.

Period. (to those of you who replied kindly, I apologize for my rant)

I'm not one of those guys that would do this job for free. I liked it and had a good time, but I owned it to my family to make a decent living. When I started even in 1970, the pay was decent. I'm also not one that dreamed of being a cop all my life either, I just wanted a new job and the pay and benefits was the primary thing that attracted me to it. I remember going to a school in Texas in 1976 and was afraid to tell the Texas cops what I made. I was making twice what most were and 4 times more than a couple of guys.

I never planned to get rich from it, but I didn't want to have to work two jobs to do it either. The other big advantage is that I was able to retire at a relatively young age at pretty good pay. With that and investing at least half the OT pay I made over the years, I live pretty damn good today and don't have any financial worries. But again, I had to make enough to be able to invest that OT rather than have to live on it. My hat's off to the people who want to do it for free or for some pissey poor pay, but I ain't one of them.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

    Maneframe,
As already suggested you should link (if you know how) a couple of threads where you saw that cops on here don't like their jobs. I've never seen anything of the sort. I've seen frustration, bitching and griping, but that's already been explained to you. To be honest, I think you just made your original statement up, or based it on some other site or conversation, not here.

Your rant at jarobins was uncalled for and immature. I didn't read his post to you as confrontational at all. He was merely stating how things are at his office. You asked a question and state that we can't possibly do it for the money or hours. jarobins gives you an answer that disputes your statement and you have a full-blown hissy-fit. You say you have respect for police and then abuse one in your very next post because he disagrees with you. You can keep your kind of respect. Yeah, you'll make a great copper

You say you're 'all growed up'. I think you still have some more to go.
    .

If you rob a gas station, you're only going to get about $100, but I get to see a K9 dog use your arm as a chew toy. For all I care you can keep the $100.

I'll pipe up as a cop in a small city with low pay and ****ty benefits. Putting my wife and kids on my city health plan was so expensive I qualified for the state's health car system for children. With the kids on public assitance and my wife paying $150 a month for her own health care I'm not spending half as much as what was being taken out of our health care. Our pay just got a 4% boost and we anticipate a little more this summer that will be great. The next thing we gotta work on is our awful retirement system.

Despite all that I still love the job. I get the bills paid and we live pretty good. I still wouldn't trade it in for any other profession.

I hear you Star, but there is a major difference. At work, we are typically in their house so being civil when they become an *** is sort of a job requirement. But this guy is in OUR house being an *** and even if I weren't a cop I'd never let someone get away with that!
Rep for being the peacemaker though! :D

The dept where I live has NO medical benefits into retirement. Every other dept in the county has at least some paid for med bennies. I get at least 50% paid and it jumps to 75% at age 55.
