What you will learn from people you are in the academy with, pepole you work with who have been around for many years, is that every dept has the same basic b.s. problems. Officers are never going to be fans of admin people because, they do not actually do anything law enforement related. From Lt. on up, the name of the game is politics and kissing *** as opposed to law enforcement and public service.
Up to now, I enjoy what I do(most days), and I like the people I work with. Have I thought about lateralling to another agency? several times but will the grass be greener over there? Maybe, maybe not. Plus I don't want to go back to being the FNG and going through FTO all over again.
The toughest part of training is learning the game. Academies are not set up to make you fail. They are set up to make you succeed but you have to bust your ***. They will not give you anything. I have seen smart people drop out because they cant take the stress and I have seen other guys drop because they couldn't find a coherent sentence with a map and flashlight. If this is something you really want to do, you need to make sure you are 100% focused on it and you have to work for it.
Most depts only have you on FTO for 8-15 weeks. During that time, you are with another officer and you will do most of the driving. Probation is usually the first year from your hire date that the dept can fire you for just about any reason and you can't utilize whatever labor board your dept might have.
My wife left me alone with a case of Corona, a bag of limes and the cat. Beer is gone. What will I do with the extra limes and the cat?
