    question from noobie

hi my name is taylor and i live in atlanta georgia

i have a couple of questions that i need answered...\
    1. When a radar or laser is used to detect my speed, does the officer have to be sitting still, going the same direction or does it matter?
    2. Are tail light shades legal?
    3. What does an officer have to know to restrain someone in handuffs
    4. is there anyway to keep from being put in handcuffs, for example, i am a very large guy and i can barely make my habds touch behind my back because of years of weightlifting and football injuries, is there anything i can trell the officer, and do they carry an extra set of cuffs for guys like me.
    5. when you are called to a scene and it involves some form of assault do u immediatley assume it is the larger person?

thx in advance for the answers, and dont get me wrong i have never been out in cuffs i was just wondering because i know how bad it would hurt me in particular.

    1. Doesn't matter. My radar set can be set to moving or stationary.

    2. Nope

    3. Elaborate please. Do you mean do we have to have probable cause or do you mean do we have to know how to do it?

    4. No. If you deserved to get put in handcuffs, you will get put in handcuffs. If you are cooperative more than likely the officer will chain 2 pair together so you are more comfortable but if you don't cooperate, they will make your arms reach that far.

    5. No.

    Just thought Id answer #4-
The best way to keep from being put in handcuffs, is to avoid any action that would give an officer a reasonable suspicion that a crime had been committed and that you were somehow related to that criminal act.

    Has always worked for me.

sorry the what i meant was so they have to have probable cause to handcuff someone.

what about lasers do they have to be stationary?

the reason i ask was about a month ago i was at a party at ga tech and apparently someone was assaulted by a large white man. As soon as they walked in i was treated rather roughly, handcuffed and thrown in the back of a squad car, i wasnt told why and i spent aproximately 90 minutes there. then they had the girl who was assaulted come and look and when she said it wasnt me they still didnt let me out. They proceeded to search my car without asking me and found nothing. i was finally released and told that if i knew what was good for me i should go home even though i had every right to be there. then i was escorted to my car and a car followed me to the interstate.

is this normal? i know i am a big guy but sheesh it seemed like over kill especially after she told them it wasnt me.

I was trained that application of handcuffs was equivalent to "soft empty hand" control on the force continuum. This means that I can handcuff someone in response to his or her verbal noncompliance.

It sounds to me like you were temporarily detained because you fit the description of the suspect of an assault. You were likely handcuffed at the time due to your size and the violent nature of the crime they were investigating. When you were found not to be the suspect, you were released. As far as the search goes, and the other conduct you allege of the officers, I wasn't there, but I've been in this business long enough to know there are at least two sides to every story...I wonder what the officers on the scene would say if I asked them what happened?

    Hope this helps-
