    klonopin DUI?

I was recently prescriped a drug called clonazepam, or klonopin. It is a benzodiazepine, and it used to treat panic attacks.

My question: If I drive, am pulled over and found to be on klonopin, will I get a DUI?

Oh yes, one more thing, I recieved a DUI for alcohol about three years ago, so my record isnt clean.

I can only speak for the state of AL, but I assume it's the same or similar elsewhere. If it impares your driving, you can receive a DUI for anything: alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription drugs, over-the-counter cough medicine, water... doesn't matter. What matters is the substances affect on your driving. So yes, you most certainly can receive a DUI for klonopin.

Only if it impairs your driving. If it doesn't, it doesn't matter.

Booze is a legal drug and obviously one can be arrested for DUI , Klonopin is but another Legal ( prescribed) drug and if it impairs your ability to safely drive...

Klonopin is a central nervous system depressant, and as such depending on the dosage and the person, will produce impairment and effects similar to those of alcohol. There is likely a warning on the label about driving or operating machinery. I would not suggest driving while on the medication, in most states a drug and alcohol DUI are looked at the same.
