I carry a .357Sig Glock 31. I like it because of the knockdown power, it's light, and you can carry 15 in the Mag and 1 in the tube.Originally Posted by Marshall

I prefer a .45. If I'm going to be sued, I want to be sued by the estate, not the person I shot.
I had a suicide by cop when we were transitioning. Three different cops shot the guy, one with a .38, one with a 9mm and another used a .45. After watching the autopsy, there was no doubt that I wanted the .45!

The technology improvements in ballistics has made them all pretty comparable. It’s a matter of preference.

I prefer 22 or .177 because I don't shoot so good and if I miss I most likely won't hurt the buystanders too much. Besides, CBP REALLY frowns on us pulling out our guns...or pepper spray...or cuffs for that matter. Our training is such that we will "polite" our "customers" into submission. What a crock of ****!
Oh ya, I prefer the .40 but the 9mm does ok. If you use the right ammunition there really isn't a lot of difference in the damage inflicted. It's more about shot placement than caliber.

Oh ya, just so you don't all go thinking you can do anything you want at the border and get away with it, I was joking about the shooting. I've actually never shot below 149 out of 150 so don't mess with us 'cause I be puten a cap in yo ***!

Whatever I get issued is OK with me. I have gone from .38+P's to 9mm's to a .40. The .40 is a nice round though.

I am with Bearcat and Steelcity. When I had a choice, I carried the .357sig. Policy since changed and mandated the carry of a .40. No worries. They could have issued me a 9mm and I would not have cared. Most duty-caliber rounds from a reputable manufacturer will do its part if you do yours.

Used a .45 (Sig P220) when I first got on; use a 9mm now (Glock 17). All the recent ballistics research I've read also bears out: shot placement > caliber (especially with the quality rounds manufactured today).

.40 Cal here as well. I like it. A litte more knockdown than the 9mm, a little higher velocity than the .45. I've shot 9mm & .40. Anything but the .38 :D
I like the .40 and the .45 the 9mm is not worth it's salt. Remember the gun battle between the robbery suspect and the lone Laurel Maryland officer in 80'? The suspect was hit thirty one times (9mm) and as I recall twelve of those shots were in vital areas. He died as a result of a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head as the officers backup arrived.

Handguns calibers are, at best , marginal defense rounds. I agree with those that wrote that with modern technology, 9's, 40's, .357's and 45's are all pretty equal.
I carry a .45 because it fits in the weapon I shoot the best. ;)
