I was hired by my local pd as an officer, but they are still doing a background check and i was wondering how long it takes for the background check to be complete. Thanks for the info in advance.

They hired you before completing a background check? Are you actually hired and working for them, or was it a conditional offer?
Its a conditional offer in which they are hurrying through because the academy starts on May 16th. They have me going tomorrow to get fingerprinted, and IDo badge and to fill out all my paperwork.
There are a lot of factors that determine the length of time, but considering the academy starts the 16th... I imagine tehy will want it completed before then. No way to really tell because it differs from dept to dept.
I remember reading about a department that put you on and started the academy while they were doing the BG. If something came up, you get tossed from the academy. It seemed at the time a screwy way of doing things, but maybe this department does it the same way?

Please note that your suitability as an applicant is NOT tied in any way with your worth as a person.
Your background also may hamper it depending on how many jobs you had and how many different places you have lived. Every department is different on how extensive the research is, but if you lived in 7 different states as an adult and held 15 different jobs, you can bet that your background may take longer then the person who has far less.
Also it depends on how reliable your old employers will call back the BI for interview questions.
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

Well i lived in the same area for 22 years and have only worked at four different jobs. So I am assuming from what you are all saying, that it should not take that long then. And they have just scheduled me for a Psych eval on the 28th of this month so I guess they are moving as fast as they can possibly move.
