    Is this harrasment?

We had two officers come to our house ( I wasn't present) and question my uncle about the whereabouts/idenities of potential drug possessors. Despite my uncle asking them to leave, they continued to question him, and then inquired as to what his girlfriend's name was. Unfortunately, she happened to pull into our driveway in her car. The officers wrote down her license plate number.

Somethiong about the whole thing didn't seem right to me, am I right, or am I terribly paraniod? I'm hoping it's the latter, but other friends have agreed that the officers' behavior was a bit odd.

    Any comments?

Is that a question for your novel or did this really happen?

That's the key part of it right there. You have no idea what went on.

BTW...any idea why they would think your uncle would know the "whereabouts/idenities of potential drug possessors"?

This really happened, and my family usually keaps me well clued in on happenings and such.

(BTW comment) The reason, I'm sorry to say, was because my uncle used be involved with 'that' crowd.

Ever thought that he is still involved with "taht crowd"? Apparently the police believe he is for some reason. So, to answer your question, no, it's not harrassment.

Harassment...with intent to annoy, alarm, cause utterance etc...

This does not fit, even if it did...we annoy, alarm, and overall cause grief in criminals lives on a daily basis. That's our job. We investigate, then do an inhumane amount of paperwork...

He should get over it, and except that he will always be looked at sideways by those that know him.

Spot even though your uncle may be out of the drug scene he will still have contacts. Sounds by your post that he was heavily into the "scene" and he will draw cops to him for answers whether he likes it or not.

When I investigate a case I go to the people on the street that might be able to give me information. Burglary, drugs, robberies or whatever those that are in the life of crime whether "active" or "retired" will hear who is doing what and can be a wealth of information. Get used to it because it won't be the last time this happens.

Sorry to say, but people involved with "that crowd" sometimes aren't 100% honest about their dealings with the police (among other things).

He "used to be involved with that crowd" how long ago?

I can't believe the police were there over stuff he WAS doing 20 years ago...

Bottom line- there are two sides to every story and the odds that you got the whole truth are pretty slim.

Now here's the million dollar question. Do either of them use any illegal drugs?

Also... If an officer is asking questions about drug users, and if your family hangs out with these people, how would that make the officers behavior odd? Seems like he is right on the money to me.
