    NVG's?

Do ya'll get issued nvg's? I was curious about this since you never really know when/where you'll be operating if this isn't a piece of equipment handed out to every vehicle. If not issued do you have your own you take with you? If they are issued what generation do you use and is it only a monocle or the real deal? I've never used anything above gen II, but I heard they have gen IV out now. Must be like daylight with those I bet.

Hehehe USMC, spent 4 years manning an anti-tank gun. I've used thermals, nvg, and just about anything else they have.

I have a gen 2 monocle. I prefer using the thermal imaging camera because, well, it's just plain better. But when I do use the NVG, I prefer a monocle over full binocs. I always want at least one eye adapted to the darkness. If you are using both eyes, then have to remove the binocs or the goggles / headset, then you are temporarily blinded because your eyes aren't adjusted.

I agree, having a clear night eye is great, but do you have a head-set for the monocle or is it hand held?

We have access to several pair through our supervisors, but to outfit all of the evening and nightshift is just a little costly. We do issue the ultra high power streamlights which helps. There is nothing like lighting up a whole field! :D

In the Border Patrol we had both the ITS NVG and the monocle. I preferred the ITS since it is hard to drive lights out with one eye. Out of all the agencies that I have worked with the BP is the only one that has used them on a daily basis or I should say nightly.

We have several pairs in our tech room. You generally just take them if you think you are going to need them. I don't know what generation they are. I assume they are basically the same as the military because they look the same and they have the things to mount them on to helments.

And, we are told they costs a lot and not to lose them. :D

Only our black ninja's and some "elite" detective squads would have access NVG's. The rest of us rely on what God gave us. (and bags and bags of carrots Doc)

Hey, if you really want to get a kick. Take your kids out away from the lights and let them look at the stars through NVG's. It's better than a telescope to see just how many stars there are.
