    Question on dress uniforms

I don't know what caused me to think of this but I was wondering if police officers can wear their dress uniforms for their wedding?

The only ones here who have 'dress uniforms' are members of the honor guard and the command staff. Our SOPs would discourage wearing the uniform for a wedding or something else unofficial.

We had a Class A uniform that I that guess you could call a dress uniform. It was the normal uniform with long sleves, jacket, tie,hat and any award ribbons or metals. We only wore them the funreral and other special events.

I've never heard of anyone wearing them to their wedding.

Why would anyone consider getting married in a LE uniform?

Riggs, since you used a 'male' persona title i can only 'assume' you are male. Dude, the 'day' one is married is for the lady......if you require a 'uniform' for this ceremony i don't think she will appreciate it! 'All eyes on her!'

Military Uniforms are one thing...as the military is more than just a job for many, and is rather a way of life, the military provides a more diverse uniform choice than LE. That is, there are a wider range to cover all different types of occasions. My experience is Navy...we had coveralls, dungarees, Khakis, summer whites, SDBs (Service Dress Blues, the equivalent of an Army or Air Force Class A), Dress Whites (similar to a Marine Dress Blue, but all white), Dress Mess (military equivalent of a tux...cummerbund, tails, etc, used for formal dinners with delegates, etc), all kinds of stuff. The most dressy LE uniform I have seen is a tie and tunic, and maybe a gloss SamBrowne. This is about on par with SDBs in the Navy (Dark Blue suit-type coat) or Class As in the Marines (I think this is the drab khaki uniform with a tie if I am not mistaken) or any other service. A serviceman would receive about the same response if he wanted to get married in Class As.

Just a note on Marine Dress Blues...they are about the sharpest thing around. When a career in the Navy was a real possibility for me, I was always the first to admit that the Marines were the place to be if you wanted sharp, hispeed low drag, attention-to-detail kick *** guys. Semper Fi to all you devil dogs here, and thanks for serving up front. And any of that tail that you have to beat off with a stick when you're in DBs, send some my way, will ya? I could never compete wearing an all white uniform while having people call me "Seaman". :D

I've never heard of another Copper who desired to get married in the dress Uniform. Ours are just the basic uniform (hopefully with good creases), with the 8point hat, tie, and shiny dress shoes. I actually think it kinda looks goofy...we only wear it for funerals, so hopefully I never have to wear it.

MOCOP that's what I meant...didn't mean 'drab' in the lack of color sense, but rather how the military refers to flat greens and browns, etc. But yeah, that's the one.

Same here, I can't think of anyone who wanted to get married in a police uniform, dress or not.

I got married the first time in my army dress uniform, but only because I didn't have the money for a tux!

That's exactly what I was thinking. You're wedding is supposed to be a day for you and your new wife (or husband), not a ceremony for your department. It's one thing to be a LEO for your career, but it's an entire different thing to make your entire life revolve around LE.

Rep sent. Wish I could send more! Far, far too many people see this as their primary identity. I dunno if they want to carry the power they have in their work to their home life or what, but it's a terrible way to live. At some point you're not going to be a cop anymore and then who the hell will you be?

I've seen a couple of my peers (not people I associated with) who were cops 24-7 and when they retired they still tried to keep that identity. I was embarrassed for them when they tried to hang around the dept and nobody wanted to talk to them. :(

It was a great job for me and I truly loved it while I was there, but chatting with working guys on boards like this is as close as I want to get back to it. I'm certainly not trying to relive anything by coming here, I just like the culture of the people doing it. But more and more when people ask me where I retired from, I just tell them "the city" and let it go at that.
